Recent years have seen a surge of interest in Weird England. Robert Macfarlane’s article ‘The Eeriness of the English Countryside’ and Edward Parnell’s memoir ‘Ghostland’ are warrens of inviting rabbit-holes for those chasing the elusive strangeness of ordinary places. This creative essay considers the need for a re-enchanting of the everyday landscapes of south-east England.
