Perspective: Alfred Tennyson: beyond the academy or within it?

A survey of recent Tennyson studies for the bicentenary of his birth, 2009, suggesting that he has now become so established as a major literary figure that the danger and edginess of his writing is being lost in large official commemorative 'heritage' publications.
