This paper describes and reflects upon my (CM’s) journey from teacher to researcher working with deafblind children and young people. Historically deafblind children and young people have been perceived to be too challenging to include in participation action research, but this paper presents our attempts to meet their unique communication and access requirements. It will also describe the reflexive approach used to collaborate with deafblind young people. Based on our learning, we provide wider recommendations to make

participatory research more accessible for participants with deafblindness or sensory difficulties.
