Rebooting work based assessment for the 21st century: shifting to new digital technologies for student nurses

Description: This session presents our case study research into the introduction of digital practice assessment for 500 2nd year student nurses. It outlines practical examples on how blockades to introduction within the community of practice were overcome and how learning analytics are used to enable absolute governance of work-based assessment. Currency: Within the United Kingdom, like the USA, there is a crisis, a national shortage of nurses. In the UK, this has led to new routes of entry, including work-based pathways partly driven by a Government employer levy to fund apprenticeships, creating a need for innovative solutions for work-based assessment. Why does this content matter?: Anglia Ruskin University is the largest provider of healthcare education in the East of England – with 3 campuses each 50 miles apart. To reduce attrition it is essential be able to track students’ progress in practice, ensure that formative and summative assessments are completed on time and provide timely support. Relevance: Leading digital change is hard. This session will outline how putting the users first and technology at the heart can create better, more sustainable, work-based assessment and improve student success.
