Supplier relationships in humanitarian organisations. In: Heaslip, G. and Tatham, P. eds. Humanitarian logistics: Meeting the challenge of preparing for and responding to disasters and complex emergencies. 4th ed.
Few studies have investigated the relationships between humanitarian organizations and their suppliers. This lack of research has led to difficulties in specifying the scope, framework, theories and factors related to this topic. This chapter discusses the intricate dynamics between humanitarian organizations (HOs) and their suppliers, addressing the diverse factors that should be considered within the humanitarian context. An exploratory study based on expert interviews was conducted to validate the significance of such research. Furthermore, this research aimed to explore HO–supplier relationships and their contexts in which these relationships exist. This chapter identifies the unique characteristics of suppliers in the humanitarian context and frames key elements and factors essential to HO–supplier relationships. Additionally, it discusses the situational and contextual boundaries that should be taken into account within the humanitarian sector
