Reactive Attitudes in Criminal Persepctive

chapter
posted on 2025-05-14, 10:23 authored by Michael Wilby
The reactive attitudes are the everyday reactions we have to each other: attitudes such as love, gratitude, resent, anger and forgiveness. Drawing on the seminal work of P.F. Strawson, a growing and influential literature regards the reactive attitudes as at the essence of our interpersonal morality. This paper considers what relations hold between the reactive attitudes and the criminal justice system and argues that there is a close continuity between restorative justice and an interpersonal notion of moral responsibility built out of the reactive attitudes.
