The Wartime Watch

A book in the 'Pelican Hi-Lo' series for young reluctant readers. Terry lives in a hotel with his parents, who manage the hotel. In the attic is a trunk containing magical objects, contact with which result in adventures for Terry. In this book, one of three with the same main characters, Terry is transported back in time from the present to the 1940s, where he meets a boy who is strangely familiar, before returning home with a mysterious gift.
